Diesel
18 yo Gelding, 17.1 hh

Heartbreakingly lost winter of 2023 to a slip in the pasture.

Picture

Jazz Dancer
Saddlebred x Arab
24 year old mare. She is smooth and gentle for the beginner, and fiesty for the advanced beginner. Her floating canter makes her an enjoyable ride for many.
This mare was loved by many <3

Picture
We lost Buddy in the fall of 2019.  His gentle soul is greatly missed. Buddy is my main beginner horse. He is the most steadfast of the bunch. Interactive in personality, safe and solid, but also just set enough in his ways that he teaches riders to be more assertive. He is a gentle, playful boy. His loves are food and brushing. Walk/trot only.

Picture

Krista- From fiirst impression, she seems like a crotchety 25 year old, but she had a bit of a rough past. She starts off a little bit wiry but settles quickly. There is a soft side to her. An excellent horse for groundwork lessons as she is very expressive and a clear mirror. This mare likes to work and is best for advanced beginners to intermediate riders. Often used to teach canter due to her floating stride.Often noted for her loss of her left eye. Rest Easy <3

China (China Doll)
Warmblood mare - Cheops Daughter. Started. First 5 rides.

2014 Year

Picture

Silhouette (Silly) - Conditioning, refresher.

In for 3 months of work. 14 yo broodmare who was shown in her younger years and has APHA points. 8 years off and now getting back to work. Excellent mare, loves to work. Great mind. Conditioning, physical work sorting out/muscling issues and doing wonderfully. Very good natured mare, easy to take out, has settled into her work again very well.

Westside Lady (2 & 1/2 months) -
Lewis Dam
15.3 hh 11 yo Warmblood mare. Re-started under saddle, walk/trot/canter, leg yield, good forward in the contact. Has had 2.5 months of work/5 days a week. Hacking out down the roads several miles, no concerns of vehicles, schooling work in fields and on trail.

Picture
 Braveheart, 2 yo friesan
Came to be lightly started around the beginning of March. Just a large child at a whopping 16hh and growing. Probably one of the nicest quality friesans I've had my hands on/seen yet. He has had his first 5 rides under saddle (sidepass, basic halt/walk on/trot, forehand/haunches) and lots of groundwork, continuation of work his owners started (balls, tarps, sidepass/turnon haunches &forehand in-hand, etc) and solid ground driving/in-hand, reinforcement of manners. He has absolutely been a lovely horse to work on and I wish him well in his endeavors as he grows up some more.

Dylan (Mid Feb-mid Mar)

Picture
3 yo Quarter horse gelding who came in for a light start. Truly a good natured little guy, loves to play and so much fun to work with. Had his first ride bareback (impromptu) and his third outside (pictured left). He loves to hang out with people and very much carries his own inner child still. Has had all basic groundwork and is solid w/t, working off seat. Great light start for him.

Picture

Lucy is an 8 year old Standardbred mare, standing about 16 hh. Fantastic mind on this horse, has a wonderful work ethic, sensitive and loves to please. She has some track quirks, such as sucking her tongue. Very honest mare. Forward and covers ground. Bend and transitions coming along, begun to canter and break pace. She has cryo spots on her left front and top of her hocks from older injuries.
Track career, she won over $50,000, racing for 3 years. 19 wins, 11 2nds, 8- 3rds. A total of 83 starts.

Current: Had been in a home, but they proved unsuitable and neglected her throughout winter, leaving her underweight in poor weather and far from the condition she left in. She has picked up and is back into work, canter is improving greatly, beautiful trot and very little pace left. Loves to hack out and loves to work. Handled two very beginner riders very well (not a beginner horse, more a confident beginner type) and took care of them. $2000 OBO   SOLD

Dixie (70 days)

4 yo TWH horse mare in for starting, seems to be a very nice horse. Very natural gait to her.

Dixie has now gone home, with a solid start to her running walk and canter, neck reins, good whoa, side pass, turn on the forehand/haunches and a bit of leg yield. She's easy to handle on the trail, handles everything very well and very little spook at all if any. Ponied her friend Vicki out down the road as well, several times and was great. She will make a wonderful family horse.

Picture
Lewis (January 18-April 09)

6 yo WB (Warkanson) gelding in for starting, a bit on the unsure/nervous side but a nice horse, balanced mover and just going to be a slower start.

3 months under saddle and getting solid w/t/c. Good transitions, solid from the seat, starting to really get the hang of loose/forward and into the hand. Conditioning has changed considerably, coming up nice and over at the back. Some outside riding, considerably calmer disposition. Owner is on and riding!!

Dexter- temporarily moved on for ranch work.

Picture
January- April

Dexter is a 4 year old pony with a bolting/bucking issue. He has some huge distrust issues to most people after throwing multiple riders. He is a long term boarder and will take some time, very testy  but seems to be a sweet boy and interested in you. Just has had a bad start to life, been failed by people ultimately and trying to help him on a fresh start.

Word of advice for anyone out there, who is a first time horse owner: Do not get sucked into buying a horse. Do your research and make your own decision. If you are in a facility where the barn is truly pushing a horse on you that you dont feel ready for (beginner riders + young horses= asking for trouble), say no. Do not be afraid to.Take your time. Here, we will not let a beginner rider even start looking for a horse until they have been around for a year. Therefore giving them the time through my program, to really learn the theory, and the good/bad, what to look for, what not to touch and if they are prepared for the commitment. The family who owned this boy, has been incredibly committed to him and stuck it out. Take the time to do your research, don't rush into anything.

2013 Year

JM Khia Maria- SOLD! Congrats to her new home :)

Picture

(JM Kharizma x EK Bint Desiree)

9 year old 3/4 Arabian Bay Mare.
Reg #2A05630 CPAR. Rahcountoro +++ grand-daughter.
Sweepstakes Nominated.

Khia is a must see mare with big eyes, typey head and great topline.
She is approximately 14.3 HH and an excellent 1/2 Arabian Sport Horse and Dressage prospect. Excellent amateur project.  Darlene Brouwer completed 90 days of professional training when Khia was 3 years old. Darlene stated she had a great work ethic and was focused on task.

This is a fantastic mare, she loves her job. Wants to work and very willing. Would be flashy in the hunter ring. She has been ridden in the pastures and not nervous at all, just interested and curious. Was here for miles after having a few years off and being a broodmare.

Dree (August 5-October 5)

Picture
Dree, 3 yo Friesan in for 60 days. She has now gone home, walk/trot work solid, learning to balance and a good grasp of seat aids. Flexion is coming. Solid trot to halt transition, square halts. She has approximately 47 rides under saddle. She was also shown in Walk/Trot, all 3 tests at Amberlea's Bronze Fall Harvest show and improved each day. She did not make the placings but received good comments from the judge and 8s on her free walk. She has lovely ground covering trot. Overall, a really nice mare to work with.

Kami (August)

Picture
Coming 4 yo Registered Welsh Mare. Very fancy little mare, loves to move and a nice mind. She's going to be a good kids horse with more miles. Lightly started over fences. Good transitions coming along, bend is nice and getting her walk to canter. Trail ridden a bit. She is for sale.

Minx (May 1 2012- June 2013) SOLD- Best of wishes to her and her little girl!

Picture
October 2013:: Minx has sold! She has found a wonderful family who will continue her recovery and very cool, a home familiar with Josh Nichols (very!) and a 7 year old girl to love her. Its disheartening for me to see her go as I was very attached to her, but it is a perfect home for her. She has now gotten almost full movement back in her ear and blink. Her mouth is still coming. We are excited for the future she has with her new girl <3

Update:: Unfortunately, due to a freak accident rolling into a fence, she has been pulled from training for now while we work on rehabilitating her. There is considerable nerve damage to the left side of her face. She is incredibly to have survived and we thank West Winds for their care.

RILLS SILVER MINX
2008 mare, very well started. 13.3 H apprx. Teeth have been floated, farrier, deworming UTD. She is registered and purebred. She is a nice pony and requires a sensitive capable rider. Would do excel for a confident, more experienced child in a lesson program. She can be hard to catch but will come to you in a small pen. Walk/trot/canter, Walk to Canter, trail rides on a loose rein, lateral work lightly started before time off in the fall, low fences, etc. Free jumped 3', easily clears with air. She excels on the trail alone or with other horses, nothing phases her, won't even bat an eye at vehicles. Has been started over fences to 2'9" with the scope and willingness to go higher, she LOVES it! Will be shown this year until sold, open jumpers and dressage. Loads/trailers well, good for farrier and clipping. $5000

Brom (September 5-October 5)

Picture
Brom, 5 years old. Handsome Friesan x TB. Back for work under saddle to go to his first show after some time off. He has begun to come together well and showed at Amberlea Harvest showing off his great mind, quiet disposition and sensibility although blind in one eye. He placed 7th in the walk/trot division. He has a lovely large stride and with a consistent rider who would like to show, would excel. Truly a wonderful horse.

Lil Black, (July/August)

Picture
Lil Black, Lac La Croix Pony, 5 yo
Has had 60 days from barely handled, working towards cart and harness. Mellowed a lot in that time, sensitive but very willing and interested. He will likely be back in spring to finish under cart.

Chilly (August)

Picture

Chilly, 4 yo Icelandic Cross taken for 30 days as a problem solver. He turned out very nicely, just needed lots of miles and to recognize that he was sensitive and very green. His young pony club rider is now back on him and they are continuing to build their confidence together. Best wishes to them.. This is a fantastic pony in the making. Best wishes to him and his girl!

Stormy (July)

Welsh/Saddlebred pony, came for 30 days. More on the sensitive side, now has a light start (3 rides) under saddle. Shows potential for a good show pony. Now up for sale. Same owner as Flash.

Astrid (May 5-July 5)

Picture
Astrid-May 24 2013
Bay 5 yo Connemara mare in for starting. Quiet mare, but nervous and unsure. Floaty little mover. Smart, learns quick.

Update:: She has gone home, her owners were very happy with her. She has finished all in all a very nice horse and I'm excited to watch her as she continues with her new rider. She has been a lovely mare to work with. Got a fair bit of outside miles in as well, she's going to be great on the trail.

60 Days

Update:: She has now been on some long mountain trail rides and is going very well for her owner :)

Flash (March-May)

Picture
5 yo NSH Zodiac Matador Grandson.  Smart and quick, likes to work and very people oriented. A bit unsure and nervous.

Update:: His owner has taken him home and is now doing some riding on him. He has been great fun to work with and enjoys going out on the trail now. His flat has improved greatly and he has improved learning to use his back and working into the contact, as well as begun some lateral.

2012 Year

Prince (August-September (60 days)

Picture

6 yo paint. Started as a 3 yo through a Jonathan Fields techniques. Has only walked. Still working on some head-shyness and fear he has from before his current owner bought him. Super sweet personality.

Edit:: He has completed his time and gone home. His owners will be continuing to ride with me as he learns with Prince. His owner feels much more confident on him and they are a good match for each other. Happy trails!

Nitro's Showdown (July 1-July 30)

Picture
2 yo

2 yo TWH. Very nice and sweet personality. Learns quick, not phased by much. Light riding has begun under saddle. NFS

Update:: He has now gone home, his owner is very happy with where he is, going walk and canter, neck reining, backing. Very intelligent, handles new environments, doesn't fear much. He is going to be a lovely horse.

Deeds (May 27-July 23)

Picture

8 yo purebred Arab gelding. Here for work on some fear of saddling/under saddle (basically restarting due to unknown history/possible wreck). Super cute, learning to play. NFS

Update:: He has now gone home and being ridden by his owner. He has been a pleasure to work with and will be missed.

Trickster: April 1-May 2

Picture
Coming 5 yo, 3/4 QH, 1/4 Arab Gelding in for some work for trail riding and training in a bit/transfer back to a bitless.

Update:: Finished his 30 days and left with solid transitions. Worked well in the bit, swapped back to the bitless. Learned to bow and smile and did some basic lateral. A lot more respectful on the ground and can now lunge and ground drive well.

Jane: Jan 23-Mar 23

Picture
Reg'd AQHA, excellent bloodlines. More of a nervous personality when she came but is here for 60 days.  Working towards becoming a trail horse. Very smart and and excellent work ethic.

Update:: Has finished her 60 days, nervousness is nearly gone, much more trusting of her rider under saddle and more willing to stop and think first over having her temper flare if she doesn't understand. She has become extremely sweet and a good trail partner for her owner, who due to a head injury needed a horse who was willing to work well for her and with her. Photo is before and photo below is after 60 days. Video coming soon.

Brom (August-October)

Picture

Half blind 4 yo Friesan x TB gelding.  He is here for 90 days to be started. Young mind but very smart, likes to engage and play. More info on sale page.

He has left with a great start under saddle, willing, forward, beginning to bring together a good rhythm and going walk/trot/canter. Loves to stand on a pedestal, very playful demeanor and quiet on pasture rides. He has begun leg yield and a solid square halt as he learns to engage his bum.

Sonny (July 1-Aug 1)

Picture
3 yo paint gelding, very friendly but not brave. He is quite smart, likes to work with you. Under saddle at this point and doing well.

Update:: He has now gone home to his owner up past Calgary, seems to be over his fear of the trailer. Bathed, basic turn on the haunches/forehand, set up for showmanship, walk/trot/canter. He has a super mind, I think he will do very well in the mountains for his owner and wish them luck :)

Budweiser (June 15-August 12)

Picture

Paint x TB, here for tenatively 90 days. Solidly built, easily 16 hh. Came in as reactive and nervous, very tense. Great grand sire is Secretariat. Unknown history. Pics soon. NFS

Update:: Bud has now gone home with 2 months of groundwork. Due to his history, it will be a long haul before he will be ridden as he still has a lot of confidence issues. He has a gem of a personality, very sweet but will more than likely do better as a one person horse. He will need a lot of time and patience.

His owner said:
"You have done a wonderful job with him and brought him so far. I have seen such a difference in the 2 months hes been with you. Thank you so much and I look forward to being able to continue where you have left off. With the exercises you give me I am hopeful that he will progress even more once home and will gladly update you.  Thank you so much again"

Stargirl (April 12-June 12)

Picture

3 coming 4 yo, Perch x TB, has not had a ton of work. Was started and ridden walk/trot, so now in for groundwork, miles and hopefully light lateral. Very soft personality, little spunk and just very gentle. Same home as Jasper. Here for 60 days. NFS at this time.
